The Bankhead Highway

was the first all weather transcontinental highway in the United States and was designated State Highway 1 in 1916

 by the Texas Highway Department. The Highway ran from Washington D.C.

to San Dieg California and through Texas from Texarkana to El Paso. The route passes through

Rowlett starting from the three submerged bridges seen in Lake Ray Hubbard, then passing through downtown on Main St. just in front of the brewery.
